Research & Development – Software in Logistics and Transports
MAEIL is a certified software company under the Quality and Innovation Integrated Management System, according to international standards NP EN ISO 9001:2015 and NP 4457:2007.
Within this scope, below we present several research and development (R&D) projects developed in partnership with various entities.
R&D Projects
Broker API – Work in progress
This project aims to implement a generic integration system that allows users to integrate heterogeneous systems in the cloud through the use of API’s without the need of coding (no-code), or minimizing their use (low-code).

Integration of financial Documents into ERP using QRCode or SAF-T – Work in progress
In this project, it was developed a software for processing and integration of purchase invoices through QRcode being able of reading and processing those documents in a pdf format and also processing and integrating SAF-T file documents into an ERP system, allowing to build an automated process without manual input for payables integration. An implementation of the two functionalities was carried out using Primavera ERP, a management software that allowed us testing the solution and the visualization of the documents generated through the two support files.
Expected date: June 2022

SPC Depot: Smart Parking Container Depot
The development of this project, within the scope of Portugal2020, aimed to reinforce research, technological development and innovation in container depots, or secondary line container terminals, using an intelligent and automated location container storage algorithm, finding the best place to pile the container according to several pre-defined heuristics.

Transporter + Cargofive Integration
This project aim is to integrate the TMS Transporter sales module with Cargofive in quoting freight prices for the main world shipowners, and to be able to use the closed pricing in bookings managed by the TMS.
Cargofive intends to facilitate and speed up the process of managing maritime freight rates. Comparing the different prices and tariffs on the market in real time, this solution ensures that freight forwarders make the best decisions for their commercial activities.
Beginning date: January 2018

Cargo API
This R&D project objective was to investigate and implement a strategy to modernize the UI layer of a legacy software system called Transporter, through the development of an API to expose the functional layer of the application to be reused by another graphical interface. Transporter is a TMS in the area of transport and logistics developed by MAEIL since 1999.

CargoStats – Extraction of Information from Transport Data
The objective of this project was to develop a business intelligence (BI) application using microdata from the Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE), captured directly from customs (Tax Authority) on cargo manifests in Portugal. It was intended to show the potential and usefulness of the information generated from this data for different actors in the import and export processes at a national level, giving insights about the overall commercial balance of the country with specifics KPI’s defined.
